I find creating a monthly list of projects keeps me more organized. My budget, the animals, and the over-all day-to-day of the garden look better when I stay on task.
November is right around the corner, have you completed October’s to-do list?
Here are a few things I have planned.
1. Make repairs to the Chicken coop. Hurricane Laura did a little damage and I need to make the coop winter-friendly.
2. Remove debris from the garden. This should be done daily, but sometimes I get ahead of myself, leaving scraps of wood or fencing laying around. A monthly check of the yard keeps everything tight, leaving no area for little critters like slugs and snakes to make a home.
3. Plant fall annuals to keep the garden in color. If we don’t get a hard freeze plant’s like Zinnias, Poppies, and Verbena, to name a few will keep the garden in bloom deep into winter.
4. Plant cool-season vegetables such as cabbages, lettuce, and radish.
5. Purchase and plant winter and spring-blooming bulbs
6. Prune fall-flowering shrubs and vines after blooming
7. Mulch, mulch, and mulch.
These are the main task I’m working on in October. When making plans, remember your growing zone. I live in zone 9 and therefore some of my plans may not match yours. But the mission at hand is to always have a working plan for your garden. So that your family can take-in the most it has to offer in food and beauty.
