In its first year, the plant will create a short basal rosette of thick, soft, pale-green leaves. The leaves have been traditionally dried and used in teas to help with coughs, sore throats, and other breathing conditions.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">In the second year, the plant forms a tall stalk of dense yellow flowers. The flowers have been used for earaches. The leaves and flowers are collected and used fresh or dried.
